Many specific steps taken to strengthen the PG programs

  1. Comprehensive PG website with the motto Inform, Involve, Inspire
  2. Online application for PG programs
  3. Foreign travel allowance for attending conferences for PhD students
  4. Rationalization of seats across M.Tech. programs
  5. Credit transfer for own students moving from B.Tech. to M.Tech program
  6. MS(R) assistantships to come from M.Tech. assistantships rather than from PhD assistantships
  7. Integrated recruitment of PG students and project staff to create better linkage between projects and research
  8. Explicit priority in hostel accommodation for PhD students
  9. Special efforts were taken to reduce the time between submission and review of PhD theses

During my tenure the PhD candidates increased by 60% and the graduating students reached a high of 182.

Many specific steps were taken to publicize and promote research activities. These include

  1. Started organization of National Science day as poster and seminar presentation by selected research scholars
  2. Started the research bulletins showcasing research activities in a specific domain
  3. Streamlining and strengthening the Institute lecture series with adequate publicity

  1. Chaired and developed consensus in an Inter-IIT committee for HAG assessment norms
  2. Helped implement the 6CPC awards for faculty including sorting out of many of the issues especially in relation to programming staff
  3. Organized two rounds of faculty selections and the third round is in progress
  4. Help streamline selection of Chair Professors such that there are very few vacancies today
  5. Modified norms for selection of OYFF to streamline the process
